LavaRun was a group project by 3 developers and 3 artists. Our assignment was to make a ''NightRacer''. Everyone in the group wasn't a big fan of racing games, but we were still very driven to get an amazing result. We wanted to make the game feel more exciting and engaging to play, so we came up with an idea that was really ambitious.Β Β
Our idea was that you race down a volcano that's erupting, so you have to dodge falling rocks and lava flows. There's also a timer that counts down. If you're not on time then you lose, you fell into the lava? You lost too. The best time that's left when you escaped gets saved for you on the main menu. This should motivate you to try improve your time.
I dedicated the majority of the four weeks to enhancing the car's driving experience. My goal was to ensure that it didn't tip over easily and provided a sense of control for the driver. In the video above, you can see the car nearly tipping sideways. This showcase illustrates its stability. The intentionally challenging terrain in the game showcases the car's ability to maintain control even under stress.
Additionally, I focused on improving the lighting in the map and incorporating particle effects. I worked on all the smoke particles visible in the scene. The skybox was created by one of the artists, and I ensured the road's visibility by strategically placing lights around it. I take pride in the work we accomplished, I believe the game turned out great.
